Industrial training: Foundation of japan's productivity record

Abstract

It is often held that Japan's industrial progress is associated with weak unions and cultural uniqueness. It is the author's contention, however, that they depend much more heavily upon long-term corporate human resource strategies, conscientiously applied. The article describes how these strategies are implemented, and analyzes the benefits and problems to which they have given rise. It highlights possible problems for the future.
