Technological flexibility -- A must in the competitive game

Abstract

European managers are conscious of being in the middle of a revolution in production technologies, with little time to assess their significance or impacts. In this article, the head of Fiat Auto's Work Organisation describes the three phases of technological development for Fiat in the Seventies and early Eighties, outlines the strategic forces which gave rise to the policies, and examines the social consequences of new technology and work organisation.
