Statistical comparison of correlations for estimation of the diffuse fraction of global radiation

Abstract

We compare the statistical performance of eight correlations for estimating the diffuse fraction of the monthly daily global horizontal radiation with predicted monthly values of diffuse insolation for 40 locations in 15 countries with varied meteorological conditions and geographical locations. A new useful correlation is presented based on measured diffuse insolation records for selected stations. The correlations of Collares-Pereira and Rabl, Hay, and Page yield good estimates.
