Distance to the pre-industrial technological frontier, patience, and economic development

Abstract

This research provides evidence that the persistent non-monotonic effect of distance to the pre-industrial technological frontier on economic development is associated with systematic variation in patience. This supports an interpretation of an underlying mechanism through culture and innovation.
