Abstract

•The child welfare system exists to ensure safety, permanence, and wellbeing of children.•Case manager training on health and wellbeing needs of children in foster care is often minimal.•National advocacy groups recommend comprehensive health assessments within one month.•Children in foster care have more health problems compared to general pediatrics.
