A holistic review on alternate sustainable energy source embracing photo-thermo-electric and photo-thermoelectric effect: Phonetically similar with dissimilar working principle

Abstract

Solar energy is considered as an eco-friendly, cost effective, viable as well as de facto everlasting resource meant for the society. The sustainable development objective of decelerating the climate change has attracted widespread research in the transformation of solar into other useful forms of energy. Although several technologies are prevailing to transform the solar energy, photothermal transformation of solar light into thermal energy exhibits vantage when applied for desalination and water purification in order to mitigate the water crisis and the photothermoelectric effect can cause power generation. The review encompasses the origin of photothermal conversion, the plausible mechanisms involved in the photothermal process, the pre-requisite condition of the material for the efficient conversion, thermal management by integrating the photothermal process and the thermo-electric effect for utilizing broad solar spectra using hybrid modules. This review article also provide a fundamental perception and enhanced understanding of various schemes based on photo-thermo-electric and photo-thermoelectric effect and their recent progress towards its application as power generators and catalytic progress. This aims to propose a model for the realistic outline and development of a module for effectual translation of solar into electrical energy in energy as well as environmental sectors.
