Soziales Engagement im Ruhestand: Erfahrung wichtiger als frei verfügbare Zeit

Abstract

Die mit dem demographischen Wandel verbundene Verschiebung des Verhältnisses zwischen Erwerbstätigen und Rentnern wird in der Öffentlichkeit häufi g mit einer zunehmenden "Alterslast" gleichgesetzt. Mit diesem Begriff werden jedoch die vielfältigen Leistungen, die ältere Menschen zur gesamtgesellschaftlichen Wohlfahrt beitragen, unterschlagen. Dieser Beitrag präsentiert neue Forschungsergebnisse zum sozialen Engagement von Senioren in Form von Ehrenämtern und unbezahlten Hilfeleistungen für Nachbarn, Freunde und Verwandte. Die Analysen zeigen, dass soziales Engagement von Älteren zwar auch vom Renteneintritt beeinfl usst wird. Herausragende Bedeutung kommt aber dem vorherigen Lebensverlauf zu. Gleichzeitig machen die Analysen erneut den besonderen Stellenwert von Gesundheit und Bildung als Faktoren für soziales Engagement im Alter deutlich.
