Abstract

(VA)This article explores the merger of a large company with a start-up of the information and communication technology sector in order to reach an explanation of the failure to create joint innovation. As we shall see, the choice of a mode of integration aiming at preserving specificities of the entities and at maintaining a balance of power, paradoxically, limited their innovating capacities (phase 1). This resulted in resorting to rational management of integration under the dominance of the most powerful economic actor (phase 2). But the disappointing results regarding innovation finally led the leaders to choose a third model of the symbiotic type (phase 3).
