La terciarización de las estructuras económicas regionales en Colombia

Abstract

Uno de los patrones de cambio observados en la economía colombiana en la segunda mitad del siglo XX es el crecimiento en la participación de las actividades terciarias en el PIB. Este trabajo aporta evidencia que ayuda a caracterizar este proceso en las regiones colombianas, utilizando la información sobre producto y empleo departamental. Los hallazgos encontrados no muestran una relación clara entre el producto de los sectores terciarios y el desempeno económico relativo. Sin embargo, la información sobre empleo indica que aquellas regiones con un desarrollo relativo alto tienen una mayor generación de empleo en actividades terciarias y un menor grado de informalidad. Finalmente, algunos resultados apoyan la hipótesis de que las regiones rezagadas tienden a presentar un patrón de terciarización espurio, mientras las más prósperas estarían asociadas con uno genuino.
