Efecto del cambio en los costos de transporte por carretera sobre el crecimiento regional colombiano

Abstract

El presente artículo parte del supuesto de que al disminuirlos costos de transporte de una región, la ventaja compara-tiva de ésta sobre las demás regiones mejora, lo que conllevaa la especialización de las regiones y al cambio en las áreasde mercado, lo cual afecta el crecimiento regional. Con baseen lo anterior, el objetivo en el presente artículo es determi-nar el efecto de los cambios en los costos de transporte demercancías por carretera sobre el crecimiento regional co-lombiano; así, se encuentra que la disminución de los costosde transporte aumenta la especialización en los sectores agra-rio e industrial y que la especialización agraria afecta positivamente elcrecimiento de este sector. Por el contrario, la especialización industrialno tiene efecto significativo sobre el crecimiento del PIB manufacturero. Por otro lado, los costos de transporte han tenido un gran efecto tanto enel crecimiento de largo plazo del PIB per cápita departamental como en elcrecimiento de corto plazo del PIB per cápita de las ciudades, y la decisiónde localización de las empresas es afectada por la cercanía al mercadodoméstico.
