Variedades de recursos naturales y crecimiento económico

Abstract

La teoría económica de la paradoja de la abundancia" plantea que los países que centran su actividad económica en la explotación de recursos naturales tienen menores tasas de crecimiento en el largo plazo. El presente documento presenta nueva evidencia empírica de este hecho estilizado, para lo cual utiliza estimaciones dinámicas que consideran una muestra de hasta 152 países en el período 1962-2000. Los resultados muestran la existencia de una relación negativa entre la abundancia de recursos naturales y el crecimiento económico, propia de las variedades mineras y atribuible principalmente a razones institucionales. Los recursos forestales parecen, por el contrario, correlacionarse positivamente con el crecimiento de las naciones."
