The Effect of New Price Information on Crop Supply

Abstract

Beginning in 1971, initial payments for Canadian Wheat Board grains were announced prior to planting. The intention was to influence producer expectations and, hence, crop supply. Using a novel estimation procedure designed to conserve degrees of freedom, it is concluded that the new information did tend to reduce output variability.
