Sind Unternehmer erfolgreiche Politiker? Eine Evaluierung der Forschungsergebnisse

Abstract

Politiker, die vor ihrer politischen Karriere als Unternehmer aktiv waren bzw. Erfahrung in der freien Wirtschaft gesammelt haben, betreiben eine andere Wirtschaftspolitik und beeinflussen makroökonomische Variablen auf andere Art und Weise als Politiker ohne diese Erfahrung. Das zeigt eine sich gegenwärtig dynamisch entwickelnde empirische Literatur. Die Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass Politiker mit früherer Wirtschaftserfahrung marktorientierte Politik betreiben. Beispielsweise treiben sie Deregulierung von Produkt- und Arbeitsmärkten voran und reduzieren staatliche Sozialausgaben. In den US-Bundesstaaten haben sie das Wirtschaftswachstum erhöht. Gesellschaften, die marktorientierte Wirtschaftspolitik befürworten und langfristig ihr Wirtschaftswachstum steigern wollen, sollten mehr Unternehmer für die Politik begeistern.
