Cluster und Innovationen – deutsche Branchen und Regionen im nationalen und europäischen Wettbewerb

Abstract

Welche innovationsfreundlichen Regionen in Deutschland zeichnen sich durch eine hohe regionale Konzentration unternehmerischer Tätigkeit der gleichen Branche aus? Eine von der Europäischen Kommission finanzierte Forschungseinrichtung mit der Bezeichnung »European Cluster Observatory« gibt Auskunft über die Bildung und Zusammensetzung regionaler Firmencluster in Europa und deren Innovationstätigkeit. Auf Basis dieser Daten vergleicht Kurt A Hafner, Bayerisches Staatsinstitut für Hochschulforschung und Hochschulplanung (IHF), München, zum einen Regionen innerhalb Deutschlands in ihrer Industriestruktur, zum anderen europäische Regionen hinsichtlich der Ansiedlung von Firmenclustern einer Branche. Der Vergleich zeigt, dass vor allem Regionen in Bayern und Baden-Württemberg durch ausgeprägte Clusterstrukturen und ein hohes Innovationspotential gekennzeichnet sind. Darüber hinaus lässt sich festhalten, dass deutsche Firmencluster, beispielsweise die der Automobilbranche und der Produktionstechnologie, im europäischen Wettbewerb relativ gut dastehen.
