Abstract

Die deutschen Direktinvestitionen im Ausland wie die ausländischen Direktinvestitionen in Deutschland haben sich parallel zum Außenhandel entwickelt. Zur exportstützenden Funktion der deutschen Direktinvestitionen paßt auch der Befund, daß es bisher nur in einigen Branchen aktive Standortverlagerungen ins Auslangd gegeben hat sowie der simultane Personalaufbau im In- und Ausland in einigen exportstarken Branchen. Ob Direktinvestitionen in substitutiver oder komplementärer Beziehung zum Export stehen, hängt auch davon ab, ob sie aus defensiven Motiven, d.h. in Erwartung höherer Handelsbarrieren, oder aus offensiven Motiven, d.h. in Erwartung zunehmenden Marktpotentials, vorgenommen werden.
