Historische Zusammengehörigkeit und regionale Identität

Abstract

Regionale Zugehörigkeit beeinflusst, ob Menschen wählen gehen und ob sie sich in Vereinen oder ehrenamtlich engagieren. Damit prägt sie unsere Gesellschaft. Die Bundesländer haben dabei eine geringere identitätsstiftende Rolle als der Nationalstaat oder die Kommunen. Ob dies durch die Zuschnitte der Länder bedingt ist, welche in vielen Fällen nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg historisch wenig kohärent waren und die sogenannten „Bindestrich­-Länder“ produziert haben, wird im vorliegenden Beitrag untersucht.
