Politisch abgehängt? Kreisgebietsreform und AfD Wahlergebnis in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag zeigen wir, dass die gewachsene politische Distanz durch die Kreisgebietsreform 2011 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mit höheren Stimmanteilen für die ALTERNATIVE FÜR DEUTSCHLAND (AfD) bei der darauffolgenden Landtagswahl einhergeht. Gemeinden, die besonders stark von der Gebietsreform betroffen sind, weisen einen um 4 Prozentpunkte höheren Stimmanteil für die AfD auf als direkt benachbarte, weniger stark betroffene Gemeinden. Die AfD verbuchte insbesondere in solchen Gemeinden hohe Stimmanteile, deren Einfluss auf Kreisebene durch die Kreisgebietsreform 2011 stark zurückgegangen ist. Gewachsene räumliche Entfernungen (Distanz zum Landratsamt) spielen dagegen eine eher untergeordnete Rolle. Wir schlussfolgern, dass die Stärkung von Außenstellen der Landratsämter oder die Einrichtung einer Außenstelle der Landesregierung nur begrenzten Einfluss auf das Wahlverhalten bei künftigen Wahlen haben dürfte.
