Emploi temporaire et profits des firmes belges : une approche sectorielle

This paper analyses the impact of fixed-term contracts (FTC) on profits from a sectoral perspective. Through a review of the literature, it describes alternative explanations in the context of perfect and imperfect competition, according to which firm profits might be positively or negatively influenced by FTCs. It also presents estimates from a recent econometric study relative to the Belgian private sector. The latter provides contrasting results across sectors. Indeed, FTCs are only found to have a significant (and positive) effect on firm profits in some services sectors, including wholesale and retail trade, hotels and restaurants, and real estate.
