Le consensus aux Pays-Bas. Autonomie individuelle et coopération

Abstract

The construction of consensus is an appealing regulation mode for its democratic aspect and its capacity to manage diversity. However, what are the realities covered by consensus? This descriptive and interpretive study of Dutch decision process brings out a very loose articulation between individual autonomy and co-operation. It further gets an insight into the mode of insertion of the individual in the collective. The research highlights the cultural rooting of consensus. It stresses the difficulties experimented by the French with this perception of decision and this type of articulation between the individual and the collective. Consequences for intercultural management are discussed.
