Abstract

In the debate about the future of work and in scientific research on this subject, ecological aspects of work receive little attention. At the same time, in the debate on sustainability the issue of work is rarely considered. In order to remedy this deficit, the article develops a research agenda for the social-ecological transformation of the current working society with reference to the model of ‘sustainable work’. Focussing on the transformation of the sphere of gainful employment, the relationship between paid and unpaid work, the global context of the working society(s), the significance of digitization for sustainable work, and the governance of work, new fields of sociological research are developed.
