Abstract

Against the background of the growing importance and the corresponding problematization of digital technologies in health care, this article asks how developers of such technologies mediate between different logics. It is assumed that new logics such as that of digitization have to be linked with already established institutional logics in order to become applicable. Therefore, the focus of this paper is on people who work as physicians in classical medical fields and at the same time develop and implement digital health technologies. The findings indicate that digital health technologies are intended to harmonize current conflicts between an increasing economization of the health care system and professional ethical standards; at the same time, however, digital technologies sometimes undermine demands of medical autonomy, and thus a central element of medical ethics.
