Abstract

Preparing their employees for the digital transformation is a big challenge for organizations. Learning at work (work-integrated learning) can be a key strategy to meet this challenge. In this article we look at clerical work as a key function in every administration in every organization. Based on survey data of team and group managers (n = 144) and their employees (n = 538) in financial and civil service sectors, we explore how the development of professional competence, health and work satisfaction can be improved through learning support on activity level, the level of leadership and the organizational level. We show that the support of work-integrated learning relates to work satisfaction, competence and health of the employees on every level. The team and group managers are identified as the crucial promoters of work-related learning. However, learningoriented leadership needs supportive framework conditions.
