Abstract

The present study deals with the question how social support of parents influences the realization of the vocational goals of young adults during the school-to-work transition. The gender type of the desired occupation is analyzed as a significant structural hurdle. The results of the quantitative longitudinal study with data from the Socio-Economic Panel reveal that it is less likely for women to realize their preferred occupation if they aspire a profession with a high male proportion. Additionally, the results show a significant influence of the parents support only in the relationship between father and daughter.
