Abstract

More than ten percent of the labour-market participants in germany are self-employed. The great majority of them works without employees or as „small employers“. In an occupational health perspective these groups are of particular strategic interest: they are important „moderators“ of occupational health in the setting of small-firms and an (often ignored) target group of health promotion at the same time. Based on international research literature and experiences from intervention studies in Germany the article describes basic occupational hazards, ressources of health and pathways to more efficient prevention for the self-employed.
