On Quick Choice of Power Transformation

Author

  • David Hinkley

Abstract

In an earlier article (Hinkley, 1975) the author has discussed an order‐statistic method for the fitting of power transformations of data to obtain approximate symmetry of transformed data distributions. The method is easy to apply to homogeneous samples and does not require normality. A similar quick method of choosing a symmetrizing transformation is outlined here, and a simple example is given.
