Autobiographical materials and fiction in female images in “Doctor Zhivago” novel B. L. Pasternak

Abstract

The use of autobiographical motifs in combination with fiction is decisive for the concept and its execution in B. Pasternak’s novel “Doctor Zhivago”. The question of these concepts correlation both in theoretical and historical- literary terms is immensely relevant for the poetics of the “Doctor Zhivago” novel. This significantly concerns the role of female images of Tonya, Lara, and Marina. This article examines the relationship between autobiographical sources and artistic generalization in the process of these female images creation. Using the methodology of the artistic image structure analysis, the correlation of the “voices” of the author and the heroes based on the scientific works of M. M. Bakhtin, K. Barnes, D. Bullock, D. Bykov, L. Vasilyeva, H. Wilmont, B. L. Pasternak, M. Sendich, B. B. Fisher, J. G. Harris, the author of this article seeks to show that the female images of the novel are created basing on the synthesis of Pasternak’s real- life experience and artistic imagination. The presented results of the scientific analysis can be used in further research on the poetics of “Doctor Zhivago” novel by B. Pasternak’s.
