Agrarökonomische Lehre zwischen wissenschaftlichem Anspruch und gesellschaftlicher Relevanz

Abstract

Agrarökonomische Lehre knüpft an neuesten Entwicklungen in der Forschung an und vermittelt analytische Kompetenz. Gelingt es aber auch, Orientierung zu geben zu aktuellen und relevanten gesellschaftlichen Fragen, die „assessment capacity“ von Studentinnen und Studenten zu solchen Fragen zu fördern und zu schärfen? Zweifel sind angebracht. In dem Beitrag werden beispielhaft einige Defizite skizziert und mögliche Ursachen angesprochen. Ein Grundproblem ist die verbreitete kritische Sicht auf ökonomisches Denken im gesellschaftlichen und politischen Diskurs, die vor dem Hörsaal nicht haltmacht. Aber es gibt auch hausgemachte Ursachen. Der Autor plädiert für eine stärkere Besinnung auf die normative ökonomische Toolbox und deren Anwendung auf relevante gesellschaftliche Fragen. Weitere Anregungen: bei aller Spezialisierung die Vermittlung ökonomischer Grundkonzepte nicht zu vergessen; die kritische Auseinandersetzung um Inhalte und Positionen zu beleben; und die Beschäftigung mit normativen Fragen zu betonen. Teaching agricultural economics widely reflects new research developments providing analytical competence. However, does teaching also give orientation on current and relevant demands of society, encouraging and sharpening the assessment capacity of students on such questions? There are doubts. In this paper we sketch out some deficits and address some possible reasons. A basic problem is a widespread critical view on economic thinking in public debates that does not stop at the lecture hall. Though, there are home-made problems, too. We suggest a stronger focus on the normative economic toolbox and its use for demands of society. More suggestions: despite all specialisation not to forget basic economic concepts; to encourage the critical dispute on topics and positions; and to accentuate normative questions.
