Abstract

Several results can be drawn from a comparison between the prospects, made during the sixties, about the transformation of French agriculture and the actual situation around 1980. First, it is confirmed that, concerning the factors provided with a heavy inertia, the expectations have been quite well achieved. On the other side, as for the factors more flexible, we find either a combination of converging results and gaps (technical progress, structures of farms) or large differences (relations with the inputs sectors and with the processing and marketing sectors). In addition, some phenomenons, on beginning at the time of the previsions, are not quoted by the various authors : specialization of farm systems, opposition to the «productivist» model, part-time farming. Lastly, the authors did not develop enough alternative outlooks and they neglected too much the insertion of agriculture in the whole economy.
