Mathematical Investigation for the Mechanism of the Pancreatic Juice Reflux in High Confluence of Pancreaticobiliary Ducts and Pancreaticobiliary Maljunction

Abstract

Pancreatic juice reflux (PBR) to the common bile duct and gallbladder is observed in cases with pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) and high confluence of pancreaticobiliary ducts (HCPBD) with various morphological characteristics of the biliary tract. However, the mechanisms underlying PBR remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying PBR from the perspective of fluid mechanics. In a previous study, we developed a mathematical model for bile and pancreatic juice flow based on the theory of fluid mechanics.
