Generating Kidney Organoids from Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells- Potential for Treating Kidney Disease

Abstract

An estimated 1 million people worldwide die each year from untreated kidney disease, which is a major public health issue. Most of them require maintenance dialysis or renal transplantation. Dialysis is not a successful treatment option due to high medical expenditures and negative effects on the patients. Kidney transplantation is limited by the shortage of organ donors and the possibility of immune rejection.
