Abstract

Unsere Gesellschaft befindet sich im Wandel von der Industriegesellschaft zur Informationsgesellschaft, bei der die Gewinnung, Verarbeitung, Vermittlung und Nutzung von Information und Wissen zu zentralen Aufgaben werden. Durch die Möglichkeiten der elektronischen Datenübertragung werden traditionelle Formen der Informationsvermittlung, mündlich oder durch gedrucktes Wort, tendenziell in Frage gestellt. Damit müssen auch die Bibliotheken ihre bisherige Rolle als Verwahr- und Verwaltungsstelle von Printmedien überdenken und ein neues Image entwickeln.
