Einkommensungleichheit als Gefahr für die Demokratie: WSI-Verteilungsbericht 2023

Abstract

Die alltäglichen Erfahrungen und Möglichkeiten von Menschen in Deutschland hängen ganz entscheidend von ihrem Einkommen ab. Zu einem gesellschaftlichen Problem wird Einkommensungleichheit spätestens dann, wenn sie zu einer Entfremdung einzelner Gruppen vom demokratischen System beiträgt. Ausgehend von der anhaltend hohen Einkommensungleichheit zeichnet der Verteilungsbericht unterschiedliche Lebensrealitäten von Menschen nach und verdeutlicht: Wenn sich Menschen gesellschaftlich nicht mehr wertgeschätzt fühlen und das Vertrauen in das politische System verlieren, dann leidet darunter auch die Demokratie.
