Transnationale Diskurse in der europäischen Medienöffentlichkeit: Die Debatte zum EU-Beitritt der Türkei

Abstract

Im Dezember 2004 hat der Europäische Rat einstimmig beschlossen, Beitrittsverhandlungen mit der Türkei aufzunehmen. Auch wenn erst nach einem erfolgreichen Abschluss über eine endgültige Mitgliedschaft entschieden wird, dürfte nach dieser kaum noch zu revidierenden Zusage an die türkische Regierung einem EU-Beitritt früher oder später nichts mehr im Wege stehen. In diesem Beitrag wird vergleichend analysiert, ob und inwieweit diese Entscheidung von einem transnationalen Diskurs in der europäischen Medienöffentlichkeit begleitet wurde. Als Untersuchungsmaterialien dienen je zwei nationale Qualitätszeitungen aus den drei EU-Mitgliedstaaten Deutschland, Frankreich und Großbritannien.
