Adipositas: Gesellschaftliche Kosten und Therapiemöglichkeiten

Abstract

Seit Jahren nimmt Fettleibigkeit in Deutschland zu - mit ernsthaften Folgen für die Betroffenen und die Volkswirtschaft. - Der Anstieg von Adipositas (Fettleibigkeit) in Deutschland verursacht hohe gesellschaftliche Kosten und schränkt die Lebensqualität der Betroffenen erheblich ein. Die Gründe für die Erkrankung können überwiegend von den Patienten selbst beeinflusst werden. Ernährung und Bewegung sollten daher in den Fokus rücken, um eine weitere Ausbreitung zu verhindern. Erste Analysen für Deutschland zeigen, dass die radikalste Form der Adipositastherapie, ein chirurgischer Eingriff, Begleiterkrankungen verringert, aber auch Risiken birgt und kurzfristig keine Kostenvorteile bringt. Operationen sollten darum die Ultima Ratio bleiben.
