Abstract

1972 erschien das Buch 'Die Grenzen des Wachstums' als Bericht an den Club of Rome. Diese Publikation ist außerordentlich einflussreich geworden. Sie hat das Denken über Wirtschaft und Umwelt mit einem wachstumskritischen Paradigma versorgt, das auch heute noch weit verbreitet ist und als Denkungsart den (welt -)gesellschaftspolitischen Diskurs gegen Wachstum, gegen Marktwirtschaft und letztlich auch gegen Demokratie einstellt. Das alternative Paradigma von einem 'Wachstum der Grenzen' propagiert keine Verzichtsethik, mutet den Menschen also nicht zu, Steigerungen ihres Lebensstandards vermeintlich höheren Zielen zu opfern. Stattdessen setzt diese Denkungsart auf den Problemlösungsmechanismus intensiven Wachstums: auf eine wissensgetriebene Entkopplung von Wohlstandsproduktion und Ressourcenverbrauch mittels Innovation.
