Wo steht die EU im globalen Chip-Wettrennen?

Abstract

Mikrochips sind das Hardware-Rückgrat der Digitalisierung. In einer protektionistischer werdenden Welt ist eine eigene Produktion zudem ein Sicherheitsfaktor (Europäische Kommission, 2024). Die Europäische Union (EU), vor allem aber die USA und China liefern sich einen Wettlauf um die Herrschaft in diesem Zukunftsbereich. Dazu werden immer größere Fördersummen aufgelegt; der Subventionswettlauf ist also in vollem Gange. Doch reicht die Förderkulisse in der EU aus und ist mehr Geld überhaupt sinnvoll?
