Ein Modell der Netzwerkeffekte in der Software-Industrie

Abstract

Computerbesitzer kombinieren Komplementärguter zu einem Computersystem. Mit dem Computersystem möchten sie Daten mit anderen Nachfragern und zwischen verschiedenen Applikationen austauschen. Aus diesen Interdependenzen ergeben sich drei verschiedene Netzwerkeffekte, die im Rahmen eines Hotelling-Ansatzes untersucht werden. Im Rahmen eines eindimensionalen Hotelling-Modells wird gezeigt, dass es auf die Hohe der Präferenzkosten relativ zu der Stärke des Netzwerkeffektes ankommt, ob der Markt zu einer Standardisierung kommt oder nicht. Ein wohlfahrtsmaximierender Entscheider würde in mehr Fallen als der freie Markt eine Standardisierung herbeiführen. Im Rahmen eines zweidimensionalen Hotelling-Modells wird gezeigt, dass die Anbieter einen Anreiz haben, Kompatibilitdt zwischen ihren Komponenten herzustellen. Die Nachfrager ziehen vertikal integrierte Anbieter vor, da diese niedrigere Preise verlangen.
