Abstract

Die wirtschaftliche Aktivität in den Industrieländern hat sich 1991 zunächst weiter abgeschwächt, die Talsohle der Konjunktur scheint aber im Sommer durchschritten worden zu sein. Im ersten Halbjahr stagnierte das Bruttosozialprodukt, und die gesamtwirtschaftliche Kapazitätsauslastung verringerte sich deutlich. Die Industrieproduktion war rückläufig. Der Anstieg der Beschäftigung, der gegen Ende des vergangenen Aufschwungs sehr kräftig gewesen war, kam zum Stillstand, und die Arbeitslosigkeit erhöhte sich, in einigen Ländern sogar erheblich. Angesichts der Abschwächung der Konjunktur, aber auch infolge des gesunkenen Ölpreises ist der Preisauftrieb deutlich niedriger gewesen als im zweiten Halbjahr des vergangenen Jahres. Das Welthandelsvolumen hat nur noch um etwa 2 vH (1990: rund 4 vH) zugenommen. Stützend wirkten hierbei die kräftige Konjunktur in Südostasien sowie der Importsog im Zuge der deutschen Vereinigung.
