Zur Entwicklung des Kapitalstocks infolge der demografischen Alterung

Abstract

Im Zuge der alternden Bevölkerung überschreitet das Erwerbspersonenpotenzial und damit das gesamtwirtschaftlich geleistete Arbeitsvolumen in Deutschland in naher Zukunft seinen Zenit und mündet in einen auf Jahrzehnte angelegten Abwärtstrend. Wachstumstheoretischen Überlegungen zufolge führt dies aller Voraussicht nach zu einer höheren Kapitalintensität, da der Produktionsfaktor Arbeit relativ knapper wird. Die erhöhte Kapitalintensität führt für sich genommen zu einer höheren Arbeitsproduktivität und somit zu einem höheren Lohnniveau. Im Folgenden sollen diese Wirkungszusammenhänge näher beleuchtet werden. Mögliche Auswirkungen der demografischen Alterung auf den technischen Fortschritt bleiben dabei unberücksichtigt.
