Zur Bedeutung der Automobilproduktion für den Konjunkturverlauf

Abstract

Die Automobilproduktion ist im dritten Quartal des vergangenen Jahres deutlich zurückgegangen. Dieser Rückgang ist auf die Probleme der deutschen Automobilhersteller bei der Umstellung auf den neuen WLTP-Standard zurückzuführen. Da viele Modellvarianten nicht rechtzeitig das neue Prüfverfahren durchlaufen konnten, drosselten die Hersteller ihre Produktion. Freilich handelt es sich bei diesen Problemen um eine temporäre Produktionsbehinderung, so dass man erwarten könnte, dass sich die Produktion rasch wieder erholt und - sofern ausreichend Kapazitätsreserven bestehen - die zwischenzeitlichen Produktionsausfälle nachgeholt werden. Die andauernde Schwächephase bei der Automobilproduktion sowie die eingetrübten konjunkturellen Aussichten haben jedoch Sorgen genährt, dass die Erholung schwächer ausfallen könnte, als noch vor einigen Monaten absehbar war. Aufgrund der großen Bedeutung der Automobilindustrie für die deutsche Wirtschaft sind diese Zusammenhänge zentral für die Einschätzung der konjunkturellen Grundtendenz in Deutschland.
