Arbeiten, wenn andere frei haben: Nacht- und Wochenendarbeit im europäischen Vergleich

Abstract

Auf den Punkt: In knapp der Hälfte aller europäischen Betriebe mit mindestens 10 Beschäftigten wird auch nachts, am Wochenende oder zu wechselnden Zeiten gearbeitet. Am meisten verbreitet sind Samstagsarbeit und wechselnde Arbeitszeiten, z.B. Schichtdienst. Die Verbreitung derartiger "unüblicher" Arbeitszeiten ist je nach Land verschieden. Schweden, Großbritannien und Finnland liegen hier an der Spitze. Deutschland liegt bei allen Indikatoren im oberen Mittelfeld. Unübliche Arbeitszeiten sind prozentual häufiger im Dienstleistungsbereich vertreten als im produzierenden Gewerbe. Manager in Betrieben mit einem vergleichsweise hohen Anteil an unüblichen Arbeitszeiten haben stärker mit Personalproblemen wie Krankheit, Motivationsverlust und Fluktuation zu kämpfen. Dies ändert sich nach Einschätzung der Manager auch dann nicht, wenn Arbeitszeitmodelle eingeführt werden, die den Beschäftigten größere Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten einräumen.
