Abstract

[Einleitung] Trotz aller Beteuerungen, dass die europäische Integration keineswegs ausschließlich ökonomischen Imperativen folgt, bilden die Hoffnungen, die sich mit der realwirtschaftlichen, aber auch der monetären Integration Europas verbinden, zweifellos die Grundlagen des immer stärkeren Zusammenwachsens der Mitgliedstaaten - und insbesondere die Zustimmung zu dem politischen Projekt 'Europäische Union' in den ost- und südeuropäischen Staaten hängt in hohem Maßen von der Sicht- und Fühlbarkeit (scheinbarer) ökonomischer Vorteile für die Bürger ab. [...] Spätestens mit dem Austritt Großbritanniens aus der EU, aber auch mit den Entwicklungen z.B. in Griechenland im Zuge der so genannten 'Eurokrise' wurde deutlich, dass die europäische Integration kein irreversibler Prozess ist und der Bestand der E(W)U durchaus gefährdet sein kann.
