Tourismusanalyse 2021: Gästenächtigungen auf dem Niveau von 1970. Trotz rasant steigender COVID-19-Infektionszahlen positive Bilanz für Weihnachtstourismus 2021

Abstract

Nach einer Atempause für den österreichischen Tourismus im Sommerhalbjahr 2021 mit knapp einem Viertel mehr Nächtigungen als in der ersten krisengeprägten Sommersaison 2020 und einem Rückstand von nur rund 16% gegenüber Sommer 2019, war der Start in die Wintersaison neuerlich von einem Lockdown im November und Dezember 2021 geprägt. Im Vergleich zur Saison 2018/19 beläuft sich der Aufholbedarf im ersten Winterdrittel demnach auf Basis von Nächtigungen auf gut 40%, gemessen an den nominellen Umsätzen auf knapp zwei Fünftel. Im gesamten Kalenderjahr ging die Nachfrage nach massiven Verlusten 2020 (Nächtigungen –35,9%) 2021 insbesondere infolge des Lockdown von Jahresbeginn bis Mitte Mai neuerlich spürbar zurück (–18,7%) und erreichte damit das Vorkrisenniveau von 2019 nur in etwa zur Hälfte.
