Abstract

Wie der unter Verwendung hochfrequenter Daten erstellte wöchentliche WIFO-Wirtschaftsindex (WWWI) zeigt, setzte sich der kontinuierliche Aufholprozess der Wirtschaftsentwicklung in Österreich seit den Tiefstwerten im Frühjahr auch im August 2020 fort (Kalenderwoche 35 –3,5%), die Erholung verlor jedoch etwas an Dynamik. Die auf dem WWWI aufbauende Einschätzung für das Gesamtjahreswachstum des BIP liegt bei rund –7%. Dies bestätigen die Ergebnisse eines Clusters dynamischer Faktormodelle (CDFM), welcher hier für die Aggregate der VGR-Entstehungsseite präsentiert wird. Vorgestellt werden zudem die Ergebnisse einer Korrelationsanalyse, welche u. a. zur Auswahl der Indikatoren für das CDFM herangezogen wurde. Die Lage auf dem Arbeitsmarkt entspannte sich im August weiter: Die Arbeitslosenzahl stieg merklich schwächer als im Vormonat, und auch der Beschäftigungsabbau fiel neuerlich geringer aus.
