Abstract

The World Bank's operations in labor markets are reviewed in this report. The findings show that lending in labor markets has increased significantly in the last four years. The Bank supported close to 950 projects in FY92 to FY96. An examination of the 941 project reports approved during this period shows that 229 projects supported at least one labor market"component."Labor market components comprise Public Works, Micro-enterprise Development, Labor Market Information and Monitoring, Training, Employment Services, Adjustment Compensation, Women Workers, and Labor Code Revision. Public works was the most commonly funded component in all regions followed by training, labor market information, and micro-enterprise development. Annex sections define the various labor market components (Annex 1), classify projects by labor market components (Annex 2), list the projects with labor market components (Annex 3), and provide various tabulation of project characteristics (Appendix Tables).
