Blijfkansen van afgestudeerde internationale studenten uit het Nederlandse hoger onderwijs en hun impact op arbeidsmarktramingen

Abstract

Het aantal internationale studenten dat in Nederland een studie volgt is de afgelopen twee decennia flink toegenomen, met name in het wetenschappelijk onderwijs (wo). Waar in studiejaar 2005/2006 nog zo’n 33.000 internationale studenten stonden ingeschreven in het Nederlandse hoger onderwijs, zijn dat er in studiejaar 2023/2024 naar schatting 128.000 (CBS 2024). Ruim 90.000 (ca. 70%) van hen staat ingeschreven bij een universiteit. Hoewel het aantal Nederlandse studenten in het hoger onderwijs in diezelfde periode ook toenam van ruim 527.000 studenten naar bijna 673.500 (ibid.), is het aandeel internationale dus flink harder gegroeid.
