Abstract

The survey of estate agents in the South West has highlighted several inter-regional differences in characteristics. The introduction suggested that because of the differences firstly in proximity to London of the far South West and the area surrounding Bristol and Swindon, and secondly in the industrial and social environments of the areas, that the characteristics of estate agents may differ. This hypothesis was supported by sorne of the results: agents in Bristol and Swindon had not been established for as long as agents in Plymouth and Exeter; head offices of respondents offices were more likely to be in Bristol and Swindon than Plymouth and Exeter and, perhaps most importantly, agents in Plymouth and Exeter were more likely to market properties in the South East than agents in Bristol and Swindon.
