Repensando las Crisis Financieras: El caso de una Economía Emergente y con Arreglos Cambiarios Rígidos

Abstract

El documento intenta explicar la última crisis financiera de Argentina, a partir del comportamiento de su sistema bancario en la pasada la década del ’90. En dicho sistema, el BCRA contaba con un margen acotado para actuar como Prestamista de Última Instancia -PUI- al generarse una crisis bancaria, situación dada por la propia conformación de la Caja de Conversión de nuestro país. Ante la ocurrencia de dichos sucesos, la hipótesis de trabajo expresa que el sistema bancario padece de una “inestabilidad endógena” ante la ocurrencia de una corrida, dado que al BCRA puede quedar atrapado en la disyuntiva de tener que salvar al sistema financiero ó a la Caja de Conversión.
