Abstract

This paper explores empirically and analytically the nature of China's transitional economy. The empirical results, using statistic methods, provide support for the notion that the most important issue of the transition is the development of the non-state sector. The political-economic analysis, introducing a new type of approach "anti-institutional approach", sheds light on the relation between "socialist market economy" and some political problems. We try to resolve the paradox of China's dramatic economic performance and centrally controlled system.
