Abstract

Le présent document examine les caractéristiques des usines du secteur de la fabrication qui connaissent des changements de propriété, afin de mieux comprendre les causes sous-jacentes des fusions et des acquisitions. Des études canadiennes antérieures (Baldwin, 1995; Baldwin et Caves, 1991) comparent le rendement d'usines fusionnées, au début et à la fin des années 1970. Le présent document examine les variations annuelles qui se sont produites au cours des années 1970, 1980 et 1990, afin de fournir une perspective à plus long terme. Ce faisant, il fait état de la somme des changements qui se sont produits (tant du point de vue du nombre d'usines touchées que de la part de l'emploi), ainsi que des caractéristiques des usines qui ont mené à une prise de contrôle. Il examine en outre les différences entre les prises de contrôle canadiennes et étrangères.
